Welcome to the very first official Monument Pageant of Why City! We’ve been expecting you! Modern monuments, slightly older ones, and… even older ones are competing for a spot in the city’s central square. The first contestants have already been eliminated, and now only the top three favorites remain.

The final decision depends on the most art-loving, sharp-minded, and decisive judge - you!

The Why Debate

In The Why Debate, we present you with some dilemmas that don't have a clear-cut solution. Just like in life, nothing is black and white — there are usually pros and cons to every decision you make. You'll need to consider all the factors, put yourself in the shoes of those affected by each option, and tell us what you would do and why!

Discuss the dilemma with a friend, your sister, your uncle, your godfather — with whoever you want, really — and start a truly fascinating conversation, full of agreements and disagreements! Attention! These dilemmas don’t have just one solution and they spark fiery debates!

What will children gain from this activity?

Through their engagement with Why’s Dilemmas, children will cultivate their critical thinking skills and explore different perspectives on a highly interesting topic. They will also enhance the development of 21st-century soft skills and, of course, have fun! Specifically, they will:
  • understand what a dilemma is—one that doesn’t have right or wrong answers, but many different points of view, each with its pros and cons.
  • develop their critical thinking skills.
  • be encouraged to organize their thoughts, express their opinion, and explain their reasoning.
  • learn a fun and imaginative thinking routine that helps them build their own path of thought and find their own answer.
  • realize that many times, there isn’t just one solution—there are different possible answers, each with its advantages and disadvantages.
